Leonard F. Smith - 1954 (Covell)
Smith was the popular manager of the Varsity Theater in downtown Davis. After serving four years with the army in the European theatre of the war, he was honorably discharged and was sent by his company to Davis. When the business of [the theater] increased to the point where better, larger and more beautiful quarters were necessary, he played an important part in securing them and today, they stand as a monument to him. . . .
Although the task of operating this institution required long hours and careful planning, this man found time to take an interest in community affairs.
