Robert V Oliver - 1972 (brinley)


Oliver, who had died March 16, 1974, at the age of 38, received the award posthumously.  It was accepted by his wife Helen and their children Craig Alan, Brian David, and Lisa Marie.  He was Al Stehli’s partner in the Insurance Agency of Davis, Inc.

He was active in city government, an organizer and participant in youth activities, and a strong supporter of local sports.  (Out of UC Berkeley, he was a 1958 draft choice for the LA Rams.)

—Leader of Davis Boy Scout Troup 466

—11-year manager, Little League team

—Chaired the Davis Recreation Commission

—Chief architect, Recreation Department’s ongoing project for backpackers.

He was also instrumental in pushing for the Davis Manor swimming complex, the Veterans’ Memorial building, and the Teen Center.

He was cited as “Layman of the Year” in 1972 by the California Park and Recreation Society.

 

Mayor Joan Poulos presented the awards at Community Park July 4, 1974.
